Issues fixed[edit]

Installing on 64-bit versions of Windows[edit]

The 16-bit installer can't be used on 64-bit versions of Windows so the game must be installed using a fan made installer or installing the game manually.
Alternative installer for x86/x64[3]

German website with the installers: websiteAn alternative Inno Setup installer can be downloaded from mediafire for CD-Version and DVD-Collection Version. The alternative installer includes dgvoodoo 2.5, widescreen resoluten fix, new launcher with extended game hardware configuration, batch startfix to play the game with single core on multi core systems, patch v1.1 integrated, AND FFmpeg with Batchfile to extracting video and Scumm Revisited v2.0.12.46 for convert iMUSE audio files of the game. It's the ultimative installer for english, german und french version for this game.

Custom Installer[citation needed]

These instructions are for 64-bit Windows only. The game may be installed using a fan produced installer, which can be downloaded here (used to be hosted on play-old-pc-games.com).

To get the game running, do the following:

  1. Place the cd in the optical driver, but do not launch the installer, instead launch the custom installer
  2. Follow all prompts for the installer
    • Be sure to install the game to a custom folder, such as 'C:Games' in order to prevent a bug involving saved games. The installer should do this be default
    • NOTE: There is no need to patch the game after this, as the custom installer handles that as well
  3. Launch the game, if you get nothing but a spinning cursor, read on

These instructions are for if the game does not launch correctly after installation:

  1. Try to set your resolution to something higher than the default by editing the obi.ini file as specified in the widescreen section
    • NOTE: If for some reason you can not see an obi.ini file after launching the game once, you can download one here. Place it in the top level of the installation folder
  2. If you still see nothing, download this zip file (also from play-old-pc-games.com) and unzip its contents into the top level of wherever you installed the game. It is wise to make a backup of the files it is going to replace before doing this.
  3. Launch the game. It will probably take a solid amount of time before anything happens. This is normal, just wait, as long as the cursor wheel is still spinning the game should load.
Manual Installation[citation needed]

These instructions are for 64-Bit Windows only. The locations and registry keys are different in 32-Bit Windows.

In order to perform a manual installation, you must:

  1. Install the game on a version of Windows that can run 16 bit applications.
    • You could probably use a virtualised copy of XP. If you have Windows 7 Professional or better, try using Windows Virtual PC.
  2. Copy C:Program FilesLucasArtsThe Phantom Menace on the old machine to C:Program Files (x86)LucasArtsThe Phantom Menace on the new.
  3. Insert the following key/value pairs and folders into your registry:
    • Note: If your CD/DVD drive is not E, replace E: with your actual drive letter.
  4. Start the game from C:Program FilesLucasArtsThe Phantom Menace

Could not initialize graphics hardware[edit]

Use DgVoodoo 2 wrapper[citation needed]
  1. Download and extract DgVoodoo 2 wrapper (version 2.42 or higher).
  2. From MS folder copy files D3DImm.dll and DDraw.dll and place them in a folder with a game (where TMP.exe file is).
  3. Start dgVoodooSetup.exe and configure General Settings.
  4. Go to DirectX tab and make sure Disable and passthru to real DirectX is unchecked.
  5. Choose dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated Card in Videocard field.
  6. Click Apply and OK.
  7. Start a game.
Download older atiumdag.dll[citation needed]
This fix is for ATI / AMD graphics cards only.
  1. Download and extract older atiumdag.dll.
  2. Place it in the installation folder.
